Plastics recyclers thrilled by the EU waste review proposal

Today the European Commission came forward with a European waste review proposal. The European Plastics Recyclers welcome the proposed Commission package on the EU circular economy.

The changes put forward by the Commission will enable a shift from linear to circular economy for plastics” said Ton Emans, PRE President. Emans added “Unlocking a circular economy will safeguard Europe’s economies by easing our dependency on imported raw materials”.

Yet, a stronger push for quality recycling is missing in the Commission’s proposal. Ton Emans said “The quality of recycled plastics depends on the quality of collection and sorting. Therefore, stricter requirement on separate collection and high quality sorting are needed in order to reach high quality recycling.

PRE calls on all stakeholders to embrace this strategic objective in order to move to a recycling society by supporting the Commission’s proposal.
